08 Jan Inclement Weather Operations for January 9, 2025
Dallas Animal Services will be closed to the public on Thursday, January 9th, due to the anticipated inclement weather. We will reopen at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 10th (weather permitting).
FIELD SERVICES
Our Animal Services Officers will continue to operate 24/7. If you see an owned pet left in the cold with no access to shelter, please call 311. Our priority will be weather-related calls.
ADOPTIONS
Our adoption lobby will be closed: however, staff will be working to process online adoptions. Please feel free to submit adoption applications on Thursday!
INTAKE
Intake will be closed to owner surrenders. However, we will still accept intakes of sick or injured strays ONLY needing immediate attention, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Owner surrenders should make an appointment online at BeDallas90.org/rehome, and healthy strays should not be brought into the shelter until Friday, January 10th.
If you find a healthy, friendly stray animal from Wednesday evening to Thursday evening, we strongly encourage you to bring them inside, if possible, and provide them shelter until Friday, January 10th at 12 p.m. when we reopen (weather permitting). When bringing an unknown animal into your household, we strongly recommend keeping them isolated from your personal pets. Otherwise, please call 311. Due to the anticipated road conditions and volume of high-priority calls, please expect longer wait times.
ANIMAL CARE
Animal care staff will be on-site to care for our animals and medical staff will be on-site to provide critical care for sick and injured pets in the shelter.
BUILDING SAFETY
We are monitoring the temperature carefully to ensure the building stays adequately warm throughout the day. We are preparing our building with sand in the parking lot and dog-safe sidewalk salt in our rear lot and sidewalks.
DONATIONS
If you would like to know how to help Dallas Animal Services, we would love donations of blankets and towels to help keep our animals warm. You can also donate at friendsofdas.org. As always, we are eager for foster homes, even short term, to help reduce our shelter capacity and save lives. Email dasfoster@dallas.gov if you can help.
Please stay prepared, stay safe, and stay warm this week!
